PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

Pre-Kindergarten Educational Services was originally developed as a pilot program for the Calgary Board of Education. The company has since expanded and now includes Kindergarten Enhancement and Out of School Care programs at multiple locations. While continuing to operate primarily from leased space within elementary schools, the program locations now also include a leisure centre facility and a church in order to accommodate the needs of families in surrounding communities.

PROGRAM FACTS

Pre-Kindergarten classes are 2 1/2 hours in length each day.  (Genesis Centre classes - daytime classes are 3 hours in length).  Children can attend either 2, 3 or 5 half days per week, either in the morning or the afternoon.

Between birth and 5 years, children learn at a rapid rate.  The Pre-Kindergarten program has a curriculum which fosters learning and assists in smooth transitions to Kindergarten.  Pre-Kindergarten (and Kindergarten) support “Learning through Play”.  The program incorporates the best balance of both teacher facilitated thematic programming and open ended child-led opportunities.  The program also recognizes early literacy as the foundation to all learning and incorporates early literacy whenever possible into the day to day programming.  Pre-Kindergarten is a well-balanced program which addresses all areas of a child's growth; social, emotional, physical and cognitive.

Kindergarten Enhancement is an early literacy program whereby children have the opportunity to register for 1/2 day programming which runs in conjunction with their 1/2 day Kindergarten class.  This enables Kindergarten children to stay at school for the lunch hour and the duration of the regular school day.  Kindergarten Enhancement address all areas of a child's growth; social, emotional, physical and cognitive.  A typical Kindergarten Enhancement class provides opportunity for center time, circle time, daily art/craft opportunity, music and movement.  The program is further enhanced with field trips and in class presentations.

The Out of School Care program is for children in Kindergarten through grade 6.  Children have the option to attend Before Care Only, After Care Only or both Before and After Care.  Out of School Care is a program which children should look forward to attending!  The program incorporates the best balance of both teacher facilitated thematic programming and open ended child-led opportunities.  The program is presented through diverse opportunities which include both in class activities and utilization of community resources.
